A rarity: I know this isn’t usually done, but because a couple of people wheedled a hint for No. 2 out of me, I’m giving it to everyone: “Why would you have negative money? Because there were no desktop scanners and inkjet printers in the ’80s.”

No. 2

Welcome to the Trick or Treat edition of Shot by Shot. I’ll be your host through Halloween. I volunteered to take over the chores to give Zack and Carrie a chance to play along. They put in lots of time — and some money — running the game for our amusement. You should thank them. (Thank you!)

The game play will continue just as it was during the Wet Hot Edition with one exception: The last seven shots will be part of a special bonus round designed to eliminate the guessing coma that sets in while no shots are being posted. More on that when the time comes.

Also, to randomize against my personal taste in movies, I’ll be drawing three quarters of the shots from the DVD collection of my friend Alexis, who has The World’s Most Random Movie Collection™.

Zack and Carrie still need to provide us with the answers to the final Wet Hot shots. That coin thing had me stumped.

So let’s get to it, shall we?

Summer Edition wrap-up

It’s over. And we’ve got some surprises in the final tally, which is to say that we’re making some adjustments. Because neither of us knows who he is, making his placement in third that much more impressive, and with Jared’s blessing, we’ve decided to award smoothmusic the grand prize $50 gift certificate from Amazon. Coasterboy and vistavision have both been awarded $25 gift certificates. All the winners have been sent their prizes via e-mail. (If you don’t get them, please contact me.)

Here’s the final scoreboard:

1. Coasterboy 47
2. vistavision 45
3. smoothmusic 36
4. Moe 33
5. joechummer 32

What’s next
The next big contest will start October 31. Details on that are forthcoming. In the meantime, Mike’s been kind enough to take over Shot by Shot, so that Carrie and I can play with everyone. I’m the first to say that I will probably get my ass beat by you people: that’s why I started the game — because I’d suck at it. But I think this will be a lot of fun. Thanks to Mike!

And thanks to all of you for playing! Registration will remain reopened until October 31. Tell your friends, and come back tomorrow for a new shot!

Final 8

Well, kids: Here we are. The home stretch. The final eight shots of the Summer Edition. These will determine who will win. The movies were hand-picked by me, the shots were hand-picked from those by Carrie. Remember to hover over the images to see which number to refer to them by when guessing. Good luck!

P.S. Remember to tell your friends that registration for the next official edition of Shot By Shot will reopen Monday, September 26, when the winners of the Summer Edition will be announced.
